The Top 10 Women Shaping Digital

Despite the increasing importance placed on equality in the workplace,  women still only account for 30% of the total workforce in big tech companies across the world. This number is particularly disconcerting considering that women make up 59% of the overall workforce.

There are only five women CEOs among 41 tech companies included in the Fortune 500 list and on top of that, women make up only 14.3% of the total board seats in the Top 10 tech companies in the world (Bimplus, 2018).

Verb believe that encouraging more women into tech is fundamental to the growth of the industry. 45% of our senior management are female, in order to celebrate this, we want to share our top 10 women of whom are shaping the luxury tech industry.

1. Sue Youcef Nabi

Beauty innovator and tech extraordinaire, Sue has spent 20 years at L’Oréal, as global president of L’Oréal Paris and Lancôme respectively. She has been a pioneer of industry diversity, reinventing the standard beauty stereotypes with the You’re Worth It campaigns featuring spokespeople such as Jane Fonda. Sue now owns her own vegan, genderless skincare brand called Orveda.

2. Brooke Roberts-Islam

Verb was honoured to welcome Brooke to our latest TREND event as a speaker on our panel. Not only has she founded Techstyler but she is also Head of Strategy and Innovation at Holition, Contributor at Forbes and Director at her own innovation agency, BRIA. Brooke has a strong sense of purpose and is a sustainability activist.

3. Maghan McDowell

Innovation editor at Vogue Business, Maghan is an incredibly inspiring woman. We first saw Maghan speak at a Techstyler event and have since followed her on Vogue Business. Her content is fresh, interesting and sparks conversation amongst the tech community.

4. Emma Gannon

‘Emma is a Princes Trust Ambassador, a columnist of COURIER magazine and a lecturer at the Condé Nast College and has been published everywhere from the Telegraph to Teen Vogue. She is also the author of two non-fiction books: Ctrl Alt Delete (Penguin, 2016) & The Multi-Hyphen Method (Hodder, 2018).  She was recently included in the Forbes 30 Under 30 List in media and marketing and the 35 Under 35 in Management Today, the country’s longest-running, most prestigious list of young female talent. She writes mainly about lifestyle, travel, technology, Millennial trends and feminism. She loves working in audio and conducting interviews. 5. Gwynne Shotwell

Activist, author, billionaire, founder of Lean In – a book we highly recommend – and COO of Facebook, Sheryl has a phenomenal impact on the tech industry. If you would like to learn more about Sheryl, we suggest listening to her episode on Desert Island Discs; it’s incredibly inspiring and moving.

7. Emily Weiss

From fashion assistant at Vogue and Conde Nast to entrepreneur, Emily has a creative flair and a strong work ethic. Glossier has an impeccable digital strategy; therefore we couldn’t not include her in our top 10.
