NYSKIN was a specific project for the pharmaceutical brand, LEO Pharma. The aim was to create a photographic record of the skin of those living in one of the world’s most vibrant city – Manhattan. To do this, Verb teamed up with Antidote and world-renowned photographer Rankin to deliver a part visual commemoration and part interactive census within their pop up in a way that’s never been seen before.

Verb was involved not only in the website design but also in supplying the software that allowed ultra-high resolution images to be uploaded instantly into digital screens at the pop up for NYSKIN.

For a few weeks only, in the Meatpacking district of Manhattan, we saw and mapped, wrinkles, freckles, scars and skin, in all its imperfect glory and beauty.

 

Immersive Digital Experience


Key to the success of this project was developing a way for ultra-high resolution photos to be processed and delivered to large screens instantly - and there was no pre-existing software that enabled this. Verb was responsible for automatically connecting the specialised camera to the screens and website.

Verb fulfilled the digital production work, including the development of an app for in-store, a 3D immersive web experience online and for aiding in the marketing strategy ahead of the event.

Verb was seeking to make an advance in the areas of the reproduction, and speedy processing and display of ultra-high resolution photo technologies by developing suitable software as well as middleware component parts.

Web design


One of the challenges was digitising this incredible physical experience. Verb created interactive galleries within a new branded website for NYSKIN and the key piece was an interactive face map, comprised of thousands of different photos of Manhattan's inhabitants that created one face of one New York inhabitant each day.

The face built itself from different elements and allowed the user, across all devices, to delve into the many thousands of samples and explore the city’s skin census.

The next stage was to deploy digital photo booths around the city to collate a visual database of portraits of the city’s skin, displayed within the pop up and on the online experience Verb created.
