We are looking for a front-end developer with strong WordPress and WooCommerce skills to join our team based in Shoreditch. You will be helping us with a wide variety of projects, working on websites for national and global brands. You will be working with clients such as Annabel Karmel, Liz Earle, Sunseeker, Deliciously Ella, Daylesford and a variety of others.

Skills:

  • Excellent experience with WordPress
  • Excellent experience with WooCommerce
  • Excellent experience writing clean, semantic HTML5.
  • Excellent experience writing well organised, maintainable CSS.
  • JavaScript, with knowledge of the jQuery library.
  • Solid experience working from design mockups.
  • Proficient Photoshop skills.
  • Mobile and responsive design work.
  • Knowledge of version control systems, in particular Mercurial and/or Git.

Bonus skills, but not essential:

  • Experience with CSS pre-processors, in particular Less and Sass/SCSS.
  • Experience writing object-oriented PHP code, in particular the use of “full-stack” MVC frameworks like Laravel.
  • Knowledge of Amazon Web Services, in particular EC2, S3, Glacier, SES, SQS and Route 53.
  • Knowledge of Linux systems, in particular CentOS.

Verb makes sure that their clients’ websites and mobile applications are targeted and optimised for the right customer groups that will result in the highest conversion and ROI. Working with many recognised national and international brands ranging from SME’s to large scale global brands.

As a critical member of our team, you will create and deliver solutions for a variety of digital projects including immersive marketing websites, eCommerce websites and SEO campaigns.

The day-to-day role typically includes:

 

Project Scoping

  • Gathers project requirements from the client / account manager (if existing business) or new sales person (if new business).
  • You will work with our team and our client directly to understand the overall business objectives and strategies and how each project fits into to their overall business strategy.
  • Develop project scope documents (including but not limited to sitemaps, wireframes, functional / technical specifications and project plans).
  • Think in “person days” and money terms and manages the development process to limit scope creep and ensure projects are on time and in budget.
  • Create project communications plans, prepare status reports and conduct internal and external status meetings regularly as necessary to ensure effective issue resolution and quality project delivery.
  • Attend and often lead workshops and other discovery sessions to develop business requirements for projects. Communicate those requirements to the delivery team and ensure that solutions meet those requirements.
  • Work with the team to brainstorm and prepare ideas, solutions and quotes for account management team to communicate to the client

Organisational

  • Work with and guide the creative team to produce wireframes, based of reusable templates, SEO data, inputting on IA, navigation, UI and UX decisions.
  • Monitoring and escalating project risks, soliciting client feedback and making modifications to deliverables and processes.
  • Work with the project and account management teams to develop detailed project plans for project delivery, communicate and track project milestones and monitor progress for all team members against plan.
  • Support or facilitate or lead the presentation of deliverables to clients (creative concepts, site organisation, requirements, plans, etc.)
  • Ensure that all projects meet accepted best practices in usability and website design and support agency developed branding and strategic initiatives.
  • Manage third party vendors, including consultants, contractors, and product vendors as necessary in the delivery of projects.

Operational

  • Work with the technical lead and other team members on process improvements, and other initiatives designed to improve the efficacy and quality of Interactive delivery within the agency.

Personal Development

  • Keep on top of trends in digital development and project management through reading appropriate industry publications, attending events and networking.

Your responsibilities will be far reaching as you immerse yourself within the workings of the company. These will include brainstorming, input on executing branding and marketing as well as designing and implementing clients digital assets. We are based in Shoreditch and would expect you to be in the office with us, or liaising with clients. Work hours are from 9.30am till 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.

Your portfolio and the interview will be the clincher and will demonstrate to us whether you are right for Verb.

You will be involved in the following areas:

  • Developing business concepts alongside our Senior Creative.
  • Producing branding assets from guidelines & from scratch.
  • Working within the team to design websites page-by-page.
  • Input on marketing campaigns.
  • Design of social media assets.

Requirements:

  • A strong portfolio of prior work (we will also set a design test as part of the procedure to assess your skills and innovation).
  • Knowledge of typography and layout structures.
  • Knowledge of responsive design and grid structures.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Ability to think laterally and a desire to break the mould.
  • Competent in Photoshop and Illustrator at least.

Bonus skills, but not essential:

  • Basic HTML and CSS knowledge (not for execution but for understanding of the design → development process).
  • Moving image skills (After Effects etc.).
  • Previous agency experience.
